What are society's expectations with respect to managing product and site risks? How do citizens, consumers, elected officials and activists behave and what are their expectations in terms of safety, the environment and hygiene during the production, sale and use of hazardous products?
Faced with these expectations, industrial sectors are adopting a responsible attitude and are seeking to set up organisations and work methods for minimizing risk and promoting sustainable development.

Workshop
How should you react and act when faced with a product or market crisis? As well as acting on the underlying problem, how should you manage the interface with the stakeholders concerned - operational stakeholders from industry, the authorities and administration, the media, politicians, etc? This workshop will focus on reacting to emotional issues, defining priorities, choosing communication modes and designating communicators.

A changing regulatory context for product management

Seminar
Following adoption of the REACH regulations by the European Parliament, the chemicals industry and its downstream industrial customer sectors are preparing for the practical implementation of these rules. Additional projects are being developed for the application of REACH. A number of initiatives have been launched to help businesses (especially SMEs) to train for and implement REACH's requirements. The goal is to create an efficient system that can be applied by all the stakeholders and that does not restrict business competitiveness.

The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) has developed a Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals which is going to revolutionize classification criteria, hazard pictograms and the contents of safety data sheets. This new approach will prompt the modification of many technical regulations (transport of hazardous goods, work practices, health, REACH, etc.). Some effects are already known and others are being anticipated.
